Job Title: Pre-Vocational Instructor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pre-Vocational Instructor to join our team at West Central Arkansas Planning And Development District, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction to clients in activities designed to help develop and increase skills in various areas, including personal hygiene, grooming, leisure time, daily living skills, social relationships, pre-vocational skills, community awareness, occupations, and good health practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct program participants in life and pre-vocational skills.
  • Participate in client assessments, planning, and evaluations to develop a program plan that meets the needs and wants of clients in their daily lives.
  • Be responsible for break and lunch duty to ensure the safety and well-being of participants.
  • Complete daily schedules of lesson plans for each class, including activity plans with time frames and clients who will participate in each activity.
  • Work directly with clients in the classroom, directing and participating in all instructional activities.
  • Turn in data at the end of each week, including weekly lesson plans for the following week, attendance, and billing hours for each client for the previous week, as well as quarterly progress reports as assigned.
  • Contact the supervisor regarding any incidents, behaviors, accidents, or illnesses.
  • Use general knowledge of educational practices, developmental disabilities, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Initiate programs and maintain required documentation with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required by the supervisor or client services.
  • Assist clients with bathroom needs and change clients' undergarments and/or clothing if needed.
  • Support clients with daily living and vocational activities.
  • Participate in client assessment, planning, and evaluation processes.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and participate in continuing education and training as needed.

Critical Qualifications:

  • One year of experience preferred supporting adults with intellectual developmental disabilities.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have an Arkansas Driver's License.
  • Candidate must successfully pass all pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check and drug screen.
  • Ability to keep accurate, current records.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, helpfulness, ability to follow instructions, and be a viable team player.
  • To ensure the safety of program participants, employees must be mentally alert and physically able to quickly respond to the needs of the participants.
