Nurse Educator

Bethesda Health is seeking a highly skilled Nurse Educator to join our team. As a Nurse Educator, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing educational programs for our nursing staff, with a focus on regulatory issues, infection prevention, and resident care.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement a comprehensive orientation program for new employees, incorporating regulatory requirements and Bethesda's values and mission.
- Conduct general orientation sessions, using corporate guidelines and incorporating relevant OSHA and federal and state regulations.
- Coordinate and monitor orientation activities, providing input into the evaluation of orientees and recommending release from or extension of orientation as needed.
- Assist with mentor programs and promote a culture of staff development, being open and encouraging about the work environment.
- Develop lesson plans and conduct in-service programs, including mandatory in-services and programs identified by needs assessment, state surveys, and introduction of new products, services, and technology.
- Teach staff basic computer skills related to their job duties and properly instruct staff on accessing and using online education programs.
- Work closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) to promote teamwork and quality care issues, providing input into the appraisal process of staff, particularly during orientation.
- Act as a resource person for managers relative to the department's orientation, in-service, and staff development needs.
- Conduct state-approved Nurse Assistant Training Program or CMT program, using state regulations as a guide.
- Develop and implement an ongoing infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infections.
- Establish facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infections and communicable diseases.
- Develop and implement written policies and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice and recognized guidelines for infection prevention and control.
- Oversee the facility's antibiotic stewardship program and resident care activities that increase the risk of infection.
- Lead the facility's Infection and Prevention Control Committee and develop action plans to address opportunities for improvement.
- Participate on the facility's QAA Committee and implement an annual infection control risk assessment process.
- Review and/or revise the facility's infection prevention and control program, its standards, policies, and procedures annually and as needed.
- Provide education to staff, residents, and families, ensuring public health is notified of reportable diseases.
- Collaborate with other departments in fulfilling requirements related to occupational health and safety.
- Maintain documentation of infection prevention and control program activities and inform the DON of individual needs for staff development functions.
- Assist the DON in assessing needs for resident care equipment during budget preparation and promote compliance with the organization's compliance program.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement (QAPI) activities, looking at all resident care processes to identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare concise and timely QAPI reports and develop educational programs based on needs identified through QAPI activities.
- Attend local professional educator's meetings and Bethesda monthly meetings, setting individual goals and reviewing with the DON.
- Serve as a role model to the staff and actively pursue education related to job, keeping current in nursing issues, geriatrics, management, and legislative matters.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- BSN or related baccalaureate preparation in education preferred
- Current RN license in Missouri and Illinois
- CPR/AED certification required or willing to obtain within six months of employment
- Certified as a CPR instructor highly desirable
- Certified as an Instructor for the Missouri Nurse Assistant Training program and CMT instructor certification preferred
- Completed specialized training in infection prevention and control through accredited continuing education
- Minimum of five years of recent clinical nursing experience required
- Educational and supervisory/management experience preferred
- Previous experience in long-term care required
- Ability to manage time and organize daily schedule to meet productivity standards
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other programs such as EMR
- Possesses integrity, initiative, and loyalty
- Must possess good communication skills and demonstrates ability to teach adults
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Ability to lift heavy objects using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary
- Ability to transfer and move residents who vary with ability to assist weighing 200+lbs using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary
- Ability to push and pull equipment weighing in excess of 40lbs using proper techniques and with assistance as necessary
- Manual dexterity, coordination, and skillful use of hands when working with residents and equipment
- Ability to perform necessary documentation
- Visual acuity
- Must be able to manage a diversity of activities
- Good organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, and mentoring skills
- High degree of ability in using tact, diplomacy, and discretion
- Must be able to concentrate with frequent interruptions and multiple distractions
- A preference for understanding and responding to the physical and psychosocial needs of the geriatric population required
