Job Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing project scope, budget, and installation schedules for equipment and process improvements across facilities at Darling Ingredients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, size, and select rendering process equipment, including conveyors, air and water condensers, ductwork, heat exchangers, piping systems, steam boilers, structures, tanks, valves, pumps, air scrubbing equipment, and cookers.
  • Develop project scope, budget, and installation schedule, working closely with internal departments and external resources.
  • Collaborate with Instrument & Controls, Automation, and Electrical departments to provide accurate costs and implementation of company standards.
  • Generate equipment, motor, piping, and tie-in lists for CAD and installation resources.
  • Develop P&IDs, PFDs, heat and mass balances, and other technical documents.
  • Work with the mechanical installation department to ensure all modifications/changes during installation are documented and updated in CAD drawings.
  • Communicate scope of work changes and provide technical solutions to process/installation obstacles or alternatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Highly organized, with superior time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD programs and general structural analysis is preferred.

Work Environment

The Project Engineer will work in an office environment and plant environment, with occasional travel to plants with overnight stays (20-30% travel expected).
