JOB SUMMARY

:
Under general supervision, oversees, organizes, and coordinates the activities and operations of municipal golf services across all city-managed golf facilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Supervise, organize, and coordinate the operations of municipal golf services at multiple golf courses to accommodate a diverse range of public programs and services, including:
General public access. Competitive tournaments. Individual lessons. Retail merchandise and food service operations.


• Oversee and evaluate grounds maintenance activities of golf courses, which includes but is not limited to:

Conducting course assessments to identify redesign needs. Performing inspections to detect issues. Implementing necessary measures to maintain optimal playing conditions.


• Develop and manage an annual budget, monitoring and analyzing revenues and expenditures to ensure that performance goals are achieved.

• Handle financial processes related to payroll, purchasing, and petty cash management.

• Analyze challenges and situations, assess potential actions, and formulate alternatives, including evaluating the consequences of proposed solutions, to reach effective resolutions.

• Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate both full-time and part-time staff, establishing work standards, monitoring progress, and inspecting completed work. Provide related customer service support.

• Effectively manage customer service and facility operations to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for patrons and staff, which includes product requirements, process enhancements, resolving service issues, documenting customer feedback, and developing marketing materials.

• Utilize standard software and technology relevant to business operations and facility maintenance. Examples include Workday, Microsoft Excel, Club Prophet/Proshop Keeper, GPS Visage, etc.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Develop, implement, and assess plans for the construction of facilities and golf course features, as well as the renovation of existing structures to provide technical guidance and ensure maintenance feasibility.

• Plan, promote, and oversee course safety, environmental conservation initiatives, and evaluate construction specifications and blueprints.

• Develop and manage marketing and promotional strategies for the golf division, effectively communicating and promoting golf to the public, while maintaining collaborative relationships with relevant public and voluntary organizations.

• Assess, monitor, and manage course maintenance resource inventory and retail inventory, including golf apparel, equipment, and food and beverage items.

• Resolve issues through the application of various process improvement tools and methodologies.

• Facilitate process teams to identify and recommend enhancements. Respond to after-hours calls and operational demands.

• Collaborate effectively with the Golf Advisory Committee for program and operational engagement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:


• Understanding of the principles and practices of comprehensive golf course maintenance, programming, and management.

• Familiarity with golf course development and construction processes.

• Knowledge of irrigation design, distribution, and practices.

• Understanding of plant care, pest management, and the use of herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.

• Proficiency in accounting, revenue tracking procedures, and budget development principles.

• Knowledge of basic marketing and promotional strategies for a revenue-generating entity.

• Ability to analyze and evaluate policies, procedures, services, and facilities to propose improvements.

• Proficient in oral and written communication.

• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective communication with the public and staff on a daily basis.

• Competence in selecting, supervising, training, and evaluating subordinate employees.

• Ability to draft specifications for capital purchases.

• Proficiency in contract negotiation, development, and management.

• Ability to prepare professional reports, memoranda, letters, etc.

• Competence in planning, organizing, monitoring, and evaluating employees' work assignments to achieve objectives and identify training needs.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

• Capability to perform various physical tasks, including but not limited to carrying, hearing, speaking, standing, and walking.

• Proficiency in operating various office equipment, including personal computers, telephones, fax machines, and copiers.

• Ability to lift or exert forces up to 40 pounds.

• Capability to operate a motorized vehicle.

• Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Parks, Recreation or Leisure Services, Agronomy, or Horticulture, along with 5 years of progressive experience in the golf industry, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

PGA Class A or Golf Course Superintendent certification is preferred.
