Job Overview:
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient health information at the Montana State Hospital.
The successful candidate will apply their knowledge of ICD-10-CN, CPT, DSM-5, and HCPCS coding and classification systems to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing.
This position reports to the Health Information Director and requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze health records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures
- Apply coding and classification systems to ensure accurate data retrieval and analysis
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely data processing
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Medical Coding certificate or Associates Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent
- 1-year medical coding work experience can substitute for education
- AHIMA or AAPC certification preferred
