Job Summary

The Director of Health Services is responsible for the overall function and delivery of healthcare through the University's Student Health Services department. This includes developing policies and procedures, monitoring the quality of services, supervising all Health Services staff, ensuring compliance with immunization and insurance regulations, and performing risk management duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement policies for the Department of Health Services in accordance with the University's mission.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the operation of Health Services.
  • Prepare and supervise the budget and expenditures of Health Services.
  • Supervise outpatient services, including services for illness prevention and health promotion.
  • Develop relationships with community resources, including emergency rooms, DPH, and specialty referrals in the local area.
  • Assess student levels of satisfaction with Health Services to determine goals and objectives to meet the needs of the student community.
  • Administer the student health insurance program and act as liaison with the carrier.
  • Responsible for Health Services personnel by hiring, supervising, and terminating professional, clerical, and student staff.
  • Maintain the health information system to collect, analyze, and report data to meet needs such as performance improvement, compliance, etc.
  • Recommend short and long-term goals and objectives regarding the health needs of the UMass Dartmouth community.
  • Supervise the Director of the Center for Access & Success to ensure that students receive accommodations deemed appropriate by federal law, and that faculty and staff members receive educational support about disability requirements and laws.
  • Supervise and provide guidance, advocacy, and support to the Director of Health Education/Promotion in the design and implementation of prevention, wellness, and community health education programs for the campus and creation of innovative ways of providing effective services and outreach to students.
  • Participate in space planning needs for the Health Services department.
  • Maintain membership in professional organizations and participate in workshops, conferences, and seminars to maintain a high level of clinical expertise.
  • Provide direct service as needed and certified to perform.
  • Ensure institutional compliance with public policy mandates, including immunizations and infectious disease surveillance.
  • Work with staff to provide for the unique health needs presented by a diverse student population, including adult students, minority students, international students, LGBT students, and students with disabilities.
  • Oversee risk-management issues in Student Health, including the review of patient complaints, communication with professional liability insurance carrier, review of clinical records, and clinical record policies, and the education of staff in risk management.
  • Ensure proper credentialing of medical staff.
  • Participate in Division of Student Affairs Deans and Directors meetings, leadership team meetings, critical incident review meetings, housing release, housing accommodation, and meal accommodation committee meetings.
  • Represent Student Health Services and/or the Division of Student Affairs at new student orientation programs and admission open house programs.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing and certification as a family or adult nurse practitioner.
  • Significant (over seven years) administrative experience in healthcare agency. Demonstrated advanced practice experience.
  • Experience in health promotion and outreach education.
  • Experience with supervision of a clinical healthcare service within a Higher Ed setting or with college-aged clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Higher Ed and campus student issues.
  • Ability to integrate Health Services with other areas in the Division.

Salary

$125,000 - $140,000
