Position Overview:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities through the Division of Rehabilitative Services (DRS). Role Responsibilities:

We are looking for a dedicated Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor specializing in Substance Use Disorder caseloads. This role involves providing comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services that adhere to federal and state regulations, as well as agency policies. The goal is to facilitate employment and promote independent living for our clients. Key responsibilities include:

  • Offering guidance and counseling tailored to individual needs.
  • Facilitating employment training and educational opportunities.
  • Implementing physical and mental restoration services.
  • Assisting with job placement and follow-up services.

The caseload will primarily consist of adults facing disabilities, including severe mental health issues and substance use disorders.

Essential Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a closely related field. Applicants nearing completion of their degree may also be considered, provided they submit appropriate documentation. Required qualifications include:

  • Thorough understanding of the social, economic, medical, vocational, and emotional challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
  • Proficiency in interviewing, evaluation, and counseling methodologies.
  • Familiarity with career counseling tools and techniques.

Additional Skills:

Ideal candidates will have knowledge of vocational service delivery principles and practices for individuals with disabilities, as well as compliance with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Proficiency in computer applications and the ability to learn case management software is essential. Strong communication skills and the ability to foster effective working relationships are crucial for success in this role.
