Position Overview:
The role of Principal Platform Architect is critical to the research, development, and operational success of Karius's innovative technologies. This position requires a deep collaboration with engineering and scientific leadership to establish the strategic vision for the technology that underpins our Platform.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Principal Platform Architect, you will:
- Lead architectural initiatives from inception to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget while meeting quality and regulatory standards.
- Design and develop architectural frameworks, blueprints, and guidelines for the effective development and operation of the Platform.
- Ensure that the architecture aligns with both technical and business requirements, focusing on security, performance, interoperability, and scalability.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the Platform utilizes the most suitable technologies.
- Communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Create, document, and organize strategic artifacts, including technical proposals, designs, and risk assessments.
- Ensure that Karius's research and engineering teams have access to the necessary infrastructure, tools, and processes to enhance productivity.
- Maintain a cloud vendor-agnostic Platform that can be provisioned globally, adhering to regional privacy and security regulations.
- Facilitate the provisioning of the Platform for external laboratories, enabling them to utilize Karius products.
Travel Requirements:
Minimal travel may be required.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, Genetics, or a related field. A Ph.D. is advantageous.
- Over 15 years of engineering experience, with at least 10 years in leading the development and operation of distributed software systems and cloud-native platforms.
- Expertise in infrastructure-as-code design and tools such as Terraform.
- Extensive knowledge of design patterns, implementation, testing, and failure management of distributed systems and microservices.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native software development, utilizing tools and technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and various cloud services.
- Familiarity with industry security standards, particularly NIST CSF/SSDF, and experience in implementing cloud security controls.
- Experience with DevOps methodologies, including gitOps.
- A proven track record of fostering trust, influencing cross-functional teams, and leading organizational change.
- Strong communication skills, capable of articulating complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Experience in the healthcare and life sciences sectors, particularly in developing medical devices, is a significant plus.
