At Abbott Laboratories, we're seeking a skilled Scientific Equipment Maintenance Professional to join our team in Richmond, VA. As a key member of our Toxicology Division, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our analytical instrumentation.

About the Role

This position is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting a range of complex analytical instruments, including LCMS, GCMS, Automated Liquid Handlers, and Chemistry Analyzers. You'll work closely with production, R&D, and QC teams to identify and resolve instrument-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair analytical instrumentation, including preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshooting, and repair of malfunctions.
  • Manage instrumentation supplies inventory, including ordering and expediting stock.
  • Document new equipment, inspections, and instrument repairs and failures.
  • Conduct complex tests, measure devices, and calculate data to verify adherence to specifications.
  • Prepare chemical solutions for instrument operation and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to schedule preventative maintenance and in-depth repairs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related life science field.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience working on analytical instrumentation in a laboratory setting.
  • Self-disciplined, able to work with minimal supervision, and manage time efficiently.
  • Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures.
  • Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation and data review requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data processing software associated with GC/MS and LC-MS/MS, ChemStation, Analyst, and MultiQuant.
  • Ability to process and interpret chromatographic data for instrument and method-related troubleshooting.
