Position Overview:

As a Practical Nursing Specialist, you will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, actively participating in the care and treatment of patients.

Your responsibilities will include administering medications and injections, performing tube feedings, managing IVs, collecting blood samples (if certified), providing colostomy care, and monitoring patients' conditions by recording vital signs and reporting any changes.

Additional duties involve preparing and applying basic dressings, assisting with bathing and feeding patients, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients by performing tasks such as making beds and managing personal belongings.

Provision of nursing services may occur in various healthcare settings, including state-operated facilities or community-based programs.


Qualifications:

Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:

  • A valid license and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
  • A limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
  • An application for a limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State (must be appointed immediately after graduation from an accredited practical nursing program).

Note: If appointed with a limited permit, candidates must obtain their license within one year.
