Job OverviewPOSITION SUMMARY

The Parks Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of municipal parks and recreational facilities, ensuring a consistently clean and safe environment for community enjoyment. This role includes management of 14 parks covering 240 acres, a community pool, and various recreational facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Proven experience in grounds maintenance, including skills in painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Familiarity with backhoe operation is essential.
  • Capability to operate welding equipment.
  • Experience dealing with wildlife and conservation issues.
  • Knowledge of supervisory techniques and methods.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and ongoing compliance with drug testing regulations.
  • Availability to work weekends or various shifts as needed.
  • Must be prepared for emergency call-ins.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Possession of a valid CDL (A or B) Driver's License is mandatory.

OR

  • Must pass the written portion of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) exam (permit) within 90 days of employment.

AND

  • A class "B" CDL must be obtained within the 6-month probationary period.
ESSENTIAL ABILITIES
  • Manage assigned areas of Parks Operations effectively.
  • Supervise and guide the work of staff members.
  • Utilize sound judgment and discretion in decision-making.
  • Interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and construction documents.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports.
  • Learn and apply various computer software applications.
  • Provide training and direction to employees on equipment operation and project completion.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and the public.
  • Promote a respectful and inclusive work environment.
  • Contribute positively as a team member towards the City’s mission.
KEY FUNCTIONS
  1. Supervise, plan, and direct the work of employees involved in maintenance and repair operations.
  2. Oversee various work groups focusing on construction, turf management, or maintenance operations.
  3. Provide technical guidance and instruction to staff on safety procedures and techniques.
  4. Conduct performance evaluations and manage staff-related administrative tasks.
  5. Prepare and maintain records related to payroll, inventory, and project status.
  6. Develop and monitor the budget for the section, ensuring appropriate resource allocation.
  7. Plan and schedule maintenance and repair tasks, including preventive maintenance programs.
  8. Travel to various work sites as necessary.

  • May involve working at heights and in low-light conditions.
