Accounting Assistant Job Description

The Accounting Assistant is responsible for managing financial processes, including invoicing, collections, and customer billing inquiries and disputes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and be proficient in using various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, and statistical packages.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Handle invoicing, collections, and resolve customer billing inquiries/disputes.
  • Record, classify, and summarize accounting transactions.
  • Compile and verify accuracy of accounting documents as per procedures.
  • Reconcile accounts and ensure all transactions adhere to GAAP, laws, regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Maintain and update records through filing, coding, and purging.
  • Use various software for data assembly, report formatting, and analysis.
  • Investigate discrepancies in accounts and escalate unresolved issues.
  • Communicate with vendors, students, and employees via email and phone.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 60 college credit hours and at least one year of accounting experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet research is also required. Competence in reading business documents and writing reports is essential.
