This key role reports directly to the Produce and Dairy Category Manager and is responsible for maintaining optimal inventory levels, negotiating the best in-stock costs with suppliers, and ensuring top-quality produce is sourced for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce Sourcing: Source fresh produce directly from growers or local wholesalers, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain assigned inventory levels for resale while ensuring satisfactory turnover and code dates.
  • Quality Control: Perform daily cooler walkthroughs for quality inspections and conduct quality assurance checks on inbound product deliveries from vendors as necessary.
  • Relationship Building: Build and strengthen relationships internally, as well as within the vendor and customer communities.
  • Communication: Maintain communication lines with the sales team to troubleshoot quality issues, promote and push the sale of products to increase sales and minimize spoilage.
  • Market Research: Study market trends, interview vendors, and recommend sources of supply.
  • Supply Chain Management: Responsible for necessary follow-through on product price changes and allowances.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in fresh produce procurement or a related field.
  • Knowledge: Basic purchasing principles and knowledge of the fresh produce industry.
  • Skills: Excellent attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
