Job Summary:

As a Clinical Laboratory Assistant at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in supporting the testing, delivery, and distribution of lab results. Your responsibilities will include performing a variety of laboratory procedures, including phlebotomy, capillary puncture, and other specimen collection processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure patient safety by following all quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Process specimens received from patients and other departments, assessing their integrity and preparing them for transport as required.
  • Perform maintenance on equipment and be responsible for startup and shutdown as assigned.
  • Provide excellent customer service skills and have positive customer interactions.
  • Conduct waived and moderate complexity lab testing according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Enter lab results into the computer system for waived and moderate complexity testing.
  • Communicate and document results, including alert values, to clinical staff.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of six (6) months of concentrated phlebotomy experience within the three (3) years may be substituted for the phlebotomy training program.
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program and successful completion of a phlebotomy externship of at least 80 hours within a four-week period within the last year, or completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program and two (2) years of previous concentrated phlebotomy experience, or completion of a Medical Assistant program that includes phlebotomy training and a minimum of six (6) months of concentrated phlebotomy experience within the past three (3) years.
  • Registered Phlebotomy Technician (AMT) within 12 months of hire from American Medical Technologists OR Phlebotomy Technologist Certificate within 12 months of hire from American Society for Clinical Pathologists OR Phlebotomy Technician Certificate within 12 months of hire from American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians.
Additional Requirements:
  • Routine pager, on-call duties are required.
  • Has positive customer interactions and demonstrates good service recovery skills.
  • Provides excellent customer service skills.
