Job Summary:

Virginia Jobs is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team in a correctional setting. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will provide evidence-based nursing care to patients, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support as needed. You will also maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist in organizing a treatment plan.

Responsibilities:

Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care
  • Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals
  • Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment
  • Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work hours, days, and locations as assigned
  • Ability to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs

Benefits:
  • No state benefits
  • Wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year
  • Limit of 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 - April 30
