About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in the Medical Surgical Overflow Observation unit, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to a diverse patient population. This position offers a collaborative environment where your expertise is recognized and professional development is encouraged.

Unit Overview:

  • The Medical Surgical Overflow Observation unit is essential for managing patients transitioning from emergency and step-down care, ensuring comprehensive treatment for a variety of medical and surgical issues.

Team Environment:

  • Our unit promotes a collaborative culture, where every team member is supported and appreciated.
  • We emphasize transparent communication and a supportive atmosphere, accommodating personal circumstances and unforeseen events.

Nursing Support and Staffing:

  • Daytime nurse-to-patient ratio typically ranges from 1:5 to 1:6, with additional assistance from a dedicated charge nurse.
  • Nighttime nurse-to-patient ratio is maintained at 1:5 to 1:6, ensuring focused attention on each patient's needs.
  • Clinical Nurse Coordinators are available for guidance and support, ensuring manageable patient loads for optimal unit functionality.
  • Our team is complemented by Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to enhance patient comfort and safety.

Job Responsibilities and Qualifications
  • Provide leadership that facilitates the delivery of professional nursing care to ensure patient comfort and well-being.
  • Utilize the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to deliver, delegate, supervise, and document patient care and education.
  • Implement prescribed medical interventions effectively.
Qualifications Required:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or enrollment in a BSN program with completion within five years of hire. RNs with ten or more years of experience are exempt from this requirement.
  • Preferred Education: Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Licensure: Current RN licensure with the North Carolina Board of Nursing; eNLC license may apply.
  • Certifications: BLS Healthcare Provider certification required; national certification in specialty preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of nursing experience.
