The Culinary Services Associate II is responsible for performing moderately complex food service tasks during assigned shifts in the Central Kitchen or at designated serving areas under general supervision.

Responsibilities include preparing, portioning, distributing, and serving food for both standard and therapeutic diets, as well as maintaining cleanliness of equipment, workspaces, dishes, utensils, and cookware.

Additional tasks may be assigned that align with the role's functions. This position may also involve training and supervising other culinary staff. It is essential to maintain a thorough understanding of job responsibilities to meet position requirements. Adherence to federal, state, and HACCP guidelines for food handling is mandatory. Candidates must be open to working weekends and holidays and may need to work unusual or extended hours.


Driving a state vehicle to deliver food may also be required.


Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is crucial, and employees may be required to adhere to specific shift schedules, including rotating shifts, extended hours, and overtime as per agency policy. Additional duties may include:

  • Completing mandatory training as per policy.
  • Assisting in the preparation and portioning of food for specialized diets in accordance with food service protocols.
  • Preparing scheduled snacks and maintaining a supply of snack items.
  • Participating in the safe and sanitary distribution of food following established food service policies.
  • Assisting in food service by adhering to established procedures.
  • Ensuring proper food handling in compliance with food service protocols, state and federal regulations, and HACCP guidelines.
  • Receiving food and supply deliveries from vendors as assigned.
  • Timely and accurately preparing necessary documentation.
  • Following sanitation and storage procedures for dishes and food service equipment.
  • Maintaining required sanitation standards for cleaning kitchen areas, stock rooms, and food preparation spaces.
  • Observing safety protocols and practices.
  • Training or assisting in training new culinary staff to ensure a knowledgeable workforce.

Other assigned duties may include actively participating in disaster response and recovery efforts or the activation of the Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), which may necessitate alternate shift patterns or locations.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of food preparation techniques, food storage standards, and sanitation regulations.
  • Skill in operating and sanitizing food service equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and serve food, maintain cleanliness in dining and food preparation areas, and keep accurate records.
  • Proficiency in reading and speaking English.
  • Capability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic math skills applicable to cooking and preparation.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Capacity to bend, reach, and stand or walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions.
  • Capability to smell, taste, and see.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and residents.
