Role Overview:
The Part-Time Campus Safety Officer (CSO) plays a crucial role in ensuring a secure campus atmosphere. The CSO is tasked with monitoring the campus facilities and grounds, responding to emergencies, and assisting the campus community with safety-related inquiries. Reporting to the Director of Institute Operations, the CSO aids in implementing safety protocols and emergency responses while providing exceptional service to maintain the well-being of all campus members.
The CSO will also enforce institutional policies, manage front desk operations to ensure compliance with visitor regulations, oversee surveillance systems, respond to alerts, and provide support during campus events. This role necessitates collaboration with various departments to identify and address potential safety concerns. The CSO must uphold confidentiality and ethical standards, demonstrate cultural awareness, and engage effectively with a diverse population.
The ideal candidate will excel in customer service, foster relationships, and demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills. A proactive approach to promoting safety awareness on campus is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required for effective incident documentation and community engagement. The candidate must remain calm under pressure and be adept at utilizing technology-based security measures to safeguard the campus, including access control and surveillance systems. Experience in emergency preparedness and crisis management is critical.
Key Responsibilities:
Patrol and Surveillance:
- Conduct regular inspections of campus buildings, grounds, and parking areas.
- Monitor security systems and respond to alerts as necessary.
- Identify and report safety hazards or security issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Utilize technology-driven security solutions to enhance campus safety.
Incident Response:
- Respond swiftly to emergency situations, including medical incidents and security breaches.
- Provide first aid or CPR as needed and coordinate with emergency services.
- Document incidents thoroughly and prepare reports for review.
- Assist in developing and executing emergency preparedness plans and drills.
Support for Students and Staff:
- Assist students, faculty, and staff with safety-related inquiries.
- Provide directions, escorts, and support as necessary.
- Maintain a positive and approachable presence to foster a sense of security.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to create a welcoming environment.
Policy Enforcement:
- Enforce campus regulations, including parking rules and building access policies.
- Issue warnings for violations and escalate issues as required.
- Engage with the campus community to educate on safety measures.
Collaboration with Departments and Agencies:
- Work closely with various departments and local law enforcement to ensure coordinated responses to incidents.
- Participate in meetings with relevant personnel to discuss safety strategies.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in campus safety, security, emergency preparedness, or related fields.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Current armed security guard license preferred.
- EMT Certification preferred.
- Empathetic and service-oriented approach.
- Strong crisis management and communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in security systems and technology.
- Knowledge of first-aid and safety regulations.
