Job Title: Donation Center Attendant

Join Memphis Goodwill Incorporated as a Donation Center Attendant and play a vital role in our mission to provide employment, education, and job training to individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment.

Job Summary:

The Donation Center Attendant is responsible for accepting and sorting donations from the public, issuing receipts if requested, and processing and securing donations until they are picked up by a Goodwill truck.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Greet and assist donors with donations upon arrival outside the Donation Center.
  2. Provide donors with receipts and thank them for their donations.
  3. Process donations according to Donation Center Processing Procedures, including sorting items into appropriate carts, ensuring shoes have bands, wrapping cords around electrical items, and keeping wet donations in separate carts.
  4. Maintain cleanliness at the Donation Center, including sweeping inside and outside the center when all carts are pulled out.
  5. Break down empty boxes and keep the desk top clean.
  6. Keep all donations inside the Donation Center and ensure trash and debris are kept in designated containers.
  7. Adhere to safety rules at all times and report any accidents to the Donation Center Manager the same day they occur.
  8. Secure the Donation Center at the end of the day.
  9. Assist the truck driver with loading and unloading the truck.
  10. Notify the manager of any needed supplies, truck service, and maintenance the center requires.
  11. Adhere to Goodwill's guiding principles.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  2. Able to maintain balance while lifting, loading, or unloading.
  3. Ability to separate salable from non-salable donations.
  4. Constant public contact.
  5. Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Working Conditions:

  1. Exposure to extreme weather conditions.

Interpersonal Relations:

  1. Ability to effectively relate to people with various types of disabilities, personalities, and cultural backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Ability to bend, reach, and stand for long periods of time.
  3. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds on a regular basis.
  4. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing and perform basic math skills.
  5. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
