Job Summary: As a Licensed Practical Nurse at Saratoga Hospital, you will provide direct and indirect nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Your responsibilities will include performing procedures, treatments, and related duties as assigned, consistent with hospital policies and procedures and within the New York State scope of practice for a LPN in the acute care setting. You will maintain and understand the principles of the specific patient populations' needs and appropriate treatment and care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, within the scope of practice, and in accordance with the established plan of care, you will perform treatments and procedures consistent with hospital policies and procedures.
  • You will collect, observe, and report vital signs, pulse oximetry, intake and output, pain, skin integrity, abnormal findings, weight and height measurements, and observable changes in patient behavior and/or condition in a timely and accurate manner to the RN.
  • You will deliver individualized patient care consistent with established standards of care, policies and procedures, and other regulatory standards.
  • You will participate in at least one continuous quality improvement activity for the patient or department.
  • You will reinforce patient and family teaching/learning and add to the care plan.
  • You will maintain complete, accurate, concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions, and patient responses.
  • You will perform Point-of-Care Testing and report all abnormal results to the RN.
  • You will actively participate in discharge planning and ensure a written teaching/discharge plan is developed for patients concerning disease process, complications, medications, diet, physical activity, and self-care needs.
  • You will participate in Shift-to-Shift report and daily huddles.
  • You will implement appropriate fall prevention strategies and provide for patient safety through preventive measures.
  • You will administer medications as ordered, according to policy and procedure, and within NYS scope of practice.
  • You will monitor medication, document fluid therapy, location of lines, condition of IV site, and securement type, and document patient's responses to medication, treatments, and procedures.
  • You will demonstrate attitudes and behaviors in interacting with others that are courteous, polite, concerned, friendly, and respectful.
  • You will participate in and complete required and voluntary in-services and continuing education programs to reach professional growth objectives.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • You will consistently implement and demonstrate knowledge of SH Infection Prevention and Control standards, including handwashing, standard precautions, isolation techniques, clean and sterile techniques.
  • You will perform any additional duties as directed/assigned by the RN.
