Job Title: District Maintenance Technician

Under the general direction of the Director of Facility Services and the Facility Management Team, this position works independently to maintain buildings, equipment, and grounds for Wheaton Warrenville Unit School District 200. The successful candidate will be committed to customer satisfaction for all stakeholders in the district.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, diagnose, and repair all aspects of district buildings or designated locations as requested or required to maintain operating excellence.
  • Construct, repair, and modify furniture, cabinets, counters, shelving units, bulletin boards, desks, tables, partitions, and school office equipment and furniture.
  • Replace broken windows and glass as well as glaze windows as requested.
  • Assist remodeling projects that include basic carpentry, masonry, plumbing, painting, installing vinyl cove base, and electrical projects under the management of the Facility Services Management Team.
  • Maintain, repair, and correctly use assigned equipment to sustain a safe and secure work area.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment.
  • Service all electrical supply and lighting equipment.
  • Service all plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Cultivate, prune, and trim landscape trees and shrubs as well as apply fertilization as directed.
  • Clean and maintain district buildings or designated locations as requested to maintain operating excellence and safety.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a professional maintenance technician or grounds keeper is mandatory for this position.
  • A High School diploma or equivalent is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license (not a CDL position) is obligatory.
  • The ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English is required.
  • Expected hours of work will be 7 AM to 4 PM for first shift or 3 PM to 11:30 PM for second shift.
Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be able to work in a team environment, supporting others to keep the site secure and safe. They will also be able to work with various stakeholders in the district as well as outside renters to properly service and support events that are scheduled to be held at district buildings or designated locations.

The position requires the ability to climb ladders and scaffold, bend and flex to inspect tunnels, cabinetry, boilers, excavations, cavities above ceilings, and other facility features. The candidate must also have sufficient physical strength to handle heavy materials, lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally and 50-75 pounds frequently without assistance.

The successful candidate will be able to tolerate noise, smoke, fumes, and heat as well as weather extremes of heat in summer, cold in winter, rain, and dusty conditions typical of the Midwest.

They will also be able to operate mechanized equipment for 8 hours per day without other assignment and read blueprints, manuals, and other technical information as it relates to job needs.

The ability to follow verbal instructions to complete projects in a timely fashion is essential for this position.
