Job Overview
Under supervision, the Security Operations Officer performs duties of moderate complexity and accountability related to physical security, safety, loss prevention, and the maintenance of order, adhering to established agency protocols. This role involves utilizing computers and operating electronic security and safety monitoring systems, along with other relevant equipment. The officer may also be required to operate a motor vehicle as part of their responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conducts patrols of assigned areas, public buildings, and surrounding locations to uphold order, ensure peace, and protect life and property from threats such as fire, vandalism, and theft. Reports any observed security and safety risks, including fire hazards.
2. Screens individuals entering the premises, operates and maintains security equipment, and provides routine information to visitors, directing them to appropriate personnel and offices.
3. Actively discourages and removes loiterers and disruptive individuals. When necessary, takes appropriate action against law violators on the premises.
4. Responsible for the transport and escort of individuals in custody to law enforcement facilities, ensuring all arrests are documented accurately.
5. Maintains detailed written records in location log books.
6. Responds to and documents emergency situations and unusual occurrences via telephone or radio, and prepares subsequent written reports. Assists in executing the Emergency Action Plan and collaborates with Fire Safety Directors.
7. Provides assistance to individuals who are sick, injured, or disabled, and calls for emergency medical services when necessary.
8. If certified and authorized, may administer first aid as required.
9. Completes and submits necessary documentation.
10. Records daily activities in a memo book and maintains logs of individuals entering or exiting the facility outside of regular hours.
11. May conduct clock rounds as necessary and manage vehicular traffic on the premises.
12. Monitors and reports unusual activities detected by security systems and ensures accountability for assigned equipment and property.
13. May utilize electronic security measures, including video surveillance and access control technologies.
14. May operate hydraulic access devices as needed.
15. Attends and fulfills State and NYC H+H training requirements.
16. May operate a motor vehicle as part of job duties.
17. May assist in overseeing contracted security personnel.
18. In the absence of a supervisor, may assume supervisory responsibilities.
19. Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent recognized by the State's Department of Education; or an Individualized Education Program (IEP) diploma; along with six (6) months of full-time work experience; and
2. Must hold or obtain a valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) during facility orientation, maintaining this certification throughout employment.
3. Candidates must be at least 20 years old at the time of appointment; and
4. Candidates must be residents of New York City at the time of appointment and maintain residency as a condition of employment. However, individuals with two (2) years of employment with NYC Health + Hospitals may reside in certain neighboring counties; and
5. Candidates must meet the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officer certification prior to commencing their official duties, maintaining this certification throughout employment. Continuous employment with NYC Health + Hospitals is contingent upon successful completion of both entry-level and annual recertification training programs.
Special Note: A valid New York State motor vehicle driver license may be necessary for certain positions based on operational needs, and must be maintained for the duration of employment.
