POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Reliability Engineer for Reliability Assessment, Performance Analysis (RAPA), and Technical Services will orchestrate projects and initiatives that span multiple program areas within RAPA, including Performance Analysis, Reliability Assessments, and data validation for modeling and studies. This role will also involve supporting transmission and resource adequacy studies while conducting reliability assessments in partnership with SERC stakeholders. Essential skills for this position include leadership, experience in transmission planning, and in-depth knowledge of the electric utility sector.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct transmission adequacy studies, encompassing steady state, stability, and short circuit analyses.
- Perform resource adequacy studies utilizing both deterministic and probabilistic methodologies.
- Facilitate and guide SERC stakeholder technical committees, crafting value-driven solutions to mitigate reliability risks.
- Represent the SERC region in Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) initiatives, working groups, and task forces.
- Lead efforts to implement project management techniques to enhance the efficiency of SERC's data quality, modeling, and assessment processes.
- Establish collaborative relationships with NERC and neighboring Regional Entities to bolster coordination and refine existing procedures.
- Engage with stakeholders, NERC, and the Regions to articulate SERC's stance on various transmission and resource planning topics, facilitating resolutions as needed.
- Contribute to SERC's reliability risk management program by identifying and communicating trends and risks associated with modeling and assessments.
- Provide mentorship and share expertise across multiple projects concurrently.
- Contribute knowledge through publications and articles as necessary.
- Train stakeholders on planning and operational processes relevant to SERC.
- Utilize industry insights to provide feedback on NERC reliability standards and FERC rulemaking.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required; a Master's degree or PhD in Power Systems is preferred.
- A minimum of ten years of experience in the electric utility industry, specifically in transmission planning and policy, is essential.
- Extensive knowledge of electric utility operations and experience in transmission and resource planning, including power system modeling and various studies, is required.
- Proficiency in software programs (such as PSSE, TARA, SERVM) used for transmission planning and resource adequacy studies is necessary.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize complex issues effectively.
- Familiarity with protection and control systems is advantageous.
- Understanding of business management principles related to resource allocation and stakeholder relationship management is important.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with all management levels, cross-functional teams, and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards is beneficial.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated capabilities in research, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Experience in program management is preferred.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The salary for this position is dependent on experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including generous PTO, paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability coverage, and a 401(k) plan with organizational contributions of up to 14%.
