Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Behavioral Specialist to join our team at the Hawaii State Department of Education. As a Behavioral Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing support to students with severe behavioral challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement ABA programs and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with fidelity, utilizing evidence-based behavior management techniques to promote positive student outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and staff, providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Develop and implement individualized instructional plans, incorporating strategies to promote communication, social interaction, and problem-solving skills.
  • Collect, record, and analyze data to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions to improve student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with licensed professionals, including behavior analysts and teachers, to develop and implement comprehensive support plans for students.
  • Provide instructional support tasks, including one-to-one instruction, small group instruction, and independent study activities, in accordance with IEPs and ABA programs.
  • Oversee independent study activities or small group instruction, providing clear instruction, modeling, and feedback to students.
  • Report observations on student progress, behavior, or instructional needs to licensed professionals and provide recommendations for follow-up activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in behavioral and instructional methods.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) or other nationally certified behavior analysis organization.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • One year of experience working with students with severe behavioral challenges, preferably in a school or educational setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of ABA principles and practices, including assessment, intervention, and data analysis.
