Job Overview

Position Summary:

Apellis is in search of a seasoned learning expert with a background in market access for the role of Senior Manager, Commercial Learning, Market Access, and Reimbursement. This position presents a remarkable opportunity to influence the commercial sector significantly.

This role will involve close partnerships with payer, reimbursement, and patient service teams across our rare disease and ophthalmic divisions. This is an individual contributor position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal and customer-facing teams within the Value, Access, and Policy (VAP) organization to implement educational strategies and solutions that align with the objectives of the Commercial organization.
  • Oversee the onboarding process for new hires and manage ongoing learning initiatives while innovating ways to enhance the educational experience for sustained improvement.
  • Work alongside key internal stakeholders and external partners to create educational curricula and training programs for customer-facing teams.
  • Actively seek feedback from stakeholders, considering business needs, learning gaps, and recommendations that promote long-term success for customer-facing teams.
  • Establish strong, positive relationships with business partners, functional leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to foster synergies and ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Collaborate across departments and with other learning partners to design and deliver educational materials for current and future products and indications.
  • Partner with medical teams to facilitate the smooth transfer of scientific and medical knowledge to commercial customer-facing teams.
  • Navigate the Promotional Review Committee (PRC) approval process for newly developed training materials.
  • Ensure all training adheres to Apellis values, codes of conduct, and relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Oversee all aspects of the learning management system (LMS), developing initiatives that provide structure, scalability, and solutions for the platform's long-term functionality.
  • Create and deliver educational content for events such as Product Launches, National Sales Meetings, and other business initiatives.
  • Assist the Director of Commercial Learning in achieving the goals and objectives of the Commercial Learning department, identifying knowledge and skills gaps, proposing solutions, and building capabilities over time.

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • BS/BA degree required.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in biotech/pharma, with at least 1-2 years in a training and learning role based at headquarters.
  • Preferred experience in market access roles, such as field reimbursement, payer, or contracting account management.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the market access landscape, account management, reimbursement processes, customer behaviors, and adult learning principles.
  • Proven track record of delivering a complete learning process, including curriculum design, development, and facilitation.
  • Strong passion for understanding and advocating for the needs of field teams to drive customer impact and enhance satisfaction for customer-facing teams.
  • Motivated to envision and build a global learning infrastructure that meets both immediate and long-term needs of Apellis.
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment while managing ambiguity.

Travel Requirements:

Limited domestic travel is expected, approximately 35% (e.g., field rides, meetings).
