GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the CT Imaging Specialist is responsible for executing computerized tomographic imaging procedures on patients. This role may also involve conducting general diagnostic radiology examinations and performing related tasks as necessary.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Explains the imaging process to patients and prepares them for the procedure.

· Reviews clinical information on requisitions and performs the appropriate imaging examinations. Gathers additional patient medical history as needed and ensures the procedure room is ready, maintaining adequate supplies such as linens and other necessary items.

· Evaluates the anatomical structures of the patient, sets up the imaging equipment, and executes the CT scan.

· Operates the equipment manually to acquire the necessary diagnostic information from the targeted area of the body.

· Administers intravenous contrast media, including the use of power injectors.

· Assists the Radiologist in carrying out complex sterile diagnostic procedures, such as biopsies.

· Conducts all imaging procedures while adhering to radiation safety principles, which may include patient shielding and selecting appropriate equipment settings to minimize exposure, utilizing ALARA techniques.

· PACS: Addresses any image exceptions and guarantees high-quality image delivery into the PACS system, including reviewing images and confirming image counts.

· RIS: Completes all study indexing, which includes marking the start and end of studies and finalizing them in the Radiology Information System.

· Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with the Radiologist as necessary before performing studies. Consistently demonstrates standards of excellence in teamwork, including effective communication, timely responses, positive attitude, fostering innovation, and respecting diversity.

· Completes all necessary documentation in the medical record and within the radiology information system to support clinical and billing functions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· A High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is mandatory.

· Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and advanced registry in Computed Tomography (CT) is required, or candidates must be registry eligible. If registry eligible, it must be obtained within a specified timeframe. Failure to achieve registry status will result in termination of the position.

· Maintenance of required continuing education hours is essential.

· Certification as a Healthcare Provider (BCLS) is required.
