Educational Support Specialist

Under general supervision, this role assists designated classroom and/or community-based Pre-K educators in delivering safe, age-appropriate, and effective educational experiences for Pre-K students with disabilities.
This position reports to the Principal and designated members of the district-level Department of Exceptional Students' leadership team.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides assistance to identified Pre-K students with disabilities in special education Pre-K classrooms, community early learning centers, and natural environments.
Supports the preparation of instructional materials (including copying, bulletin board construction, etc.).
Assists in data collection and informal assessments to track student progress.
Performs specialized duties to address the unique needs of Pre-K students with disabilities, which may include lifting students with limited mobility, aiding with toileting and personal hygiene, assisting with food preparation and feeding, supporting medical procedures, and implementing specialized behavior management techniques as directed.
Contributes to routine record keeping and classroom maintenance.Assists with classroom and school-wide routines, including student arrival and dismissal, monitoring during meal and rest times, and completing cleaning tasks.
Other duties as assigned to fulfill the above responsibilities.KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
One of the following qualifications must be met:
Possess an associate's degree or higher in any field from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, OR
Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, OR
Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience as a paraprofessional serving school-age children is preferred. * Bilingual or bicultural experience may be required for certain positions.
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License based on the educational requirements outlined in Formal Education.
Note:
The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.
Training and/or experience in the special needs of disabled populations, such as first aid, ability to perform a two-person lift for students as needed, or behavior management is preferred.
Light duty - Typically involves sitting at a desk or table; intermittent sitting, standing, or stooping. Moderate lifting or carrying; fifty (50) lbs. or less.NOTE:
This is a grade 16, 190-day position that starts at a step 6 and compensates for experience up to a step 8.
