Surgical Support Technician Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Support Technician to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a key member of our surgical team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sort and dispose of contaminated materials in accordance with hospital guidelines.
  • Transport patients to and from surgery, providing comfort and reporting concerns as needed.
  • Demonstrate infection control principles and aseptic techniques.
  • Work cooperatively with the surgical team to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  • Competently perform advanced level case assignments and equipment management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 0 years of experience (1 year preferred).
  • BLS certification within 2 months of hire.
  • CNA or EMT certification preferred.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with fumes, chemicals, vibrations, heat, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
