Sterile Processing Technician

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for collecting, cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilizing surgical instruments, trays, and packs, as well as other surgical equipment, in accordance with established standards and procedures to ensure a sterile and functioning supply of materials and equipment.
Additionally, the SPT assists in supply management procedures to ensure the adequacy of stock in conjunction with the Materials and Facilities Manager.
The technician maintains the cleanliness and functionality of the KODA clinical areas for daily use.
Duties and Responsibilities- Thoroughly cleans and disinfects surgical equipment and prepares equipment for sterilization.
- Inspects and maintains surgical instruments, performs disinfection and sterilization of surgical equipment used in clinical activities, and documents and maintains accurate sterilization records.
- Stays current on regulatory requirements and processes as it pertains to sterilization as governed by our regulating agencies.
- Performs routine and as needed cleaning of assigned clinical work areas and KODA operating room, documents and maintains accurate cleaning records.
- May assist with cleaning, instrument supply for Clinical Recovery Specialists performing tissue recovery during normal working hours.
- In conjunction with the Materials and Facilities Manager, the SPT will assist with ordering and receipt of clinical supplies, documentation of supplies received on appropriate supply logs, and will help to ensure the proper stocking and rotation of clinical supplies.
- May be required to assist with documentation and transport activities related to the morgue.
- High school graduation or equivalent is required.
- 1-3 years' experience in healthcare related to surgical/supply services and inventory control is required.
- National certification as a Central/Sterilization Technician or equivalent is preferred and must be obtained within 18 months of eligibility.
