Licensed Vocational Nurse

Job Summary
As a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Hillsides, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to our clients. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic and compassionate environment where you can make a real difference in the lives of others.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise healthcare and protect clients while in their care
- Represent the nursing office at assigned weekly team meetings
- Transcribe orders, receive verbal orders as needed, and send orders to pharmacy per department protocols
- Administer medications as directed according to agency policy
- Administer first aid as needed
- Review lab results with Nursing Supervisor and Psychiatrist
- Review/prepare and distribute special menus in collaboration with Nursing Supervisor
- Visit and evaluate asthmatic clients on a monthly basis, or more frequently if necessary, and maintain spirometer readings
- Schedule individual and group asthma teaching sessions
- Participate in programs designed to help clients acquire socially acceptable habits of behavior
- Participate in programs designed to help clients accept their medical conditions and handle them appropriately
- Use appropriate authority to set limits for behavior while clients are in the nurses office
- Maintain complete, accurate records of all medications administered outlined in agency policy
- Learn and become familiar with Hillsides pharmacy recordkeeping and legalities involved
- Provide office coverage in the absence of the Nursing Supervisor
- Prepare memos and letters as needed
- Maintain client charts as needed, filing pertinent doctor appointments and psychiatric notes
- Transport clients to doctor appointments as required, or for other medical needs and prepare related paperwork in conjunction with Nursing Supervisor
- Weigh and measure clients and maintain monthly records
Requirements
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, office personnel, other employees, and the general public
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret manuals and office documents
- Ability to define problems, gather, transcribe, and post data, analyze, synthesize, and classify information, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to work independently and with others, including other employees, clients, and members of the public in face-to-face and telephonic contexts
- Ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and manage time, meet deadlines, and perform duties under time constraints
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work demands
- Maintain a high level of concentration and attention to detail for extended periods of time
- Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
- Maintain a high level of ethical and professional standards in accordance with agency and community policy
- Ability to talk or hear in order to give and receive information and instructions
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to use computer keyboard up to 25% of the day
- Visual acuity, ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision for work on a laptop or other computer equipment
- Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Computer literate (basic working knowledge of Microsoft WORD, Excel, and Outlook) and data/electronic records program currently in use
- Able to use telephone, office copier, calculator, fax machine, computer printer, and scanner, or other equipment as required
Work Environment
- Regularly work indoors and outdoors in a variety of environments
- High level of exposure to blood-borne pathogens
