Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Full-Time Cook to join our team at The Residences at Greer. As a member of our management team, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, attractive meals to our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve meals as indicated and planned menus, using standardized portion sizes and approved substitutions.
  • Ensure that meals are served at scheduled times, planning and organizing food preparation tasks appropriately.
  • Supervise Kitchen Assistants in the absence of the Food Service Director; report any problems or concerns to the Food Service Director or Executive Director.
  • Responsible for clean-up duties as needed after each meal service.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and sanitation checklists to ensure kitchen and food service areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Assure that resident food preferences are met.
  • Visit with residents in the dining room to assure resident satisfaction and obtain feedback.
  • Observe and report to the Food Service Director or Executive Director any problems, concerns, or issues regarding the food service department.
  • Monitor for changes in the status of residents and report such observations to the Executive Director or Community Nurse.
  • Report any abuse, suspected abuse or alleged abuse to the appropriate agency(s).
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Desire to work with the elderly in an environment that upholds their privacy, dignity, choice, independence and individuality.
  • Ability to prepare and service a wide range of foods skillfully.
  • Working knowledge of the rules and regulations related to health and safety in food preparation.
  • Ability to organize and utilize time appropriately to accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds, to occasionally lift more than 50 pounds, and to spend long periods of time standing.
  • All general staffing requirements: Free of communicable disease, criminal record clearance, current first-aid certification, ability to read, write and understand English, general understanding of the needs of the elderly, willingness to learn, able to physically/ mentally perform tasks, as verified by a health screening that includes TB clearance.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
