As a Nursing Care Assistant I/Health Unit Coordinator on our Inpatient Surgical Oncology team, you will work a night shift (7:00pm-7:00am) with three 12-hour shifts per week. You will be eligible for a $5,000 commitment bonus. You will work in the South Pavilion 4700, a 32-bed unit primarily admitting patients for pre- or post-operative care.
You will have opportunities to practice a wide range of skills, including chest tube and drain management, tube feedings, trach care, pain management with PCA/epidurals, wound care, and more. The unit is part of the Duke Cancer Institute of Wake County, providing comprehensive cancer treatment for patients in Wake County.
You will work closely with nurse educators and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care. As a member of our team, you will be expected to maintain accurate records, communicate effectively, and prioritize tasks to meet the needs of our patients.
Responsibilities and Requirements- Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
- Obtain and record patient data for medical records, noting and informing RN/LPN of information collected.
- Administer treatment and personal care procedures to patients, including feeding, bathing, hair care, changing clothing, nail care, bed-making, assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination.
- Participate in teaching activities by reinforcing teaching instructed by RN and/or providers as needed.
- Assist providers and nurses with physical examinations by helping position patients, changing non-sterile dressing, and weighing patients.
- Take and record vital signs, record I&O, and apply ice bags. Note and report any changes in patient's condition.
- Candidates must be listed as a Nursing Assistant (NA I) with the Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect, or misappropriation of property.
- BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation.
