About the Organization:
The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) is dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing the welfare of children and families in New York City. Our mission encompasses child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care services.

Role Overview:
The Child Protection Investigation Supervisor will oversee intricate and sensitive inquiries concerning children under ACS custody. This includes probing allegations of child maltreatment and assisting in locating youth who are absent from foster care or other designated facilities. The supervisor will also provide guidance and training to Child Protective Specialists (CPS), Child Protective Specialist Supervisors (CPSS), and other staff involved in child protection services.

Key Responsibilities:
Under managerial oversight, the supervisor will:
  • Direct and manage Protection Agents across the city to aid child protective personnel in investigating claims of child abuse and neglect.
  • Act as a communication bridge between executive management and field agents.
  • Contribute to the assessment and evaluation of team members.
  • Compile detailed reports for supervisors regarding investigatory progress, training sessions, and other relevant activities.
  • Provide training and support to partner agencies and ACS staff in efforts to locate youth who are absent without leave (AWOL).
  • Utilize investigative tools and review records to develop leads for locating AWOL youth.
  • Supervise field visits by Protection Agents to assist in the recovery of youth missing from care.
  • Assign agents to re-interview family members and acquaintances when initial attempts to locate AWOL youth are unsuccessful.
  • Facilitate collaboration with law enforcement to ensure the safe return of AWOL youth to appropriate care settings.
  • In the absence of the direct supervisor, may assume their responsibilities temporarily.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. A high school diploma or its equivalent, accompanied by five years of full-time experience in law enforcement, with at least three years in specialized units such as Special Victims, Forensics, or Homicide.

2. An Associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited institution, along with three years of law enforcement experience, including two years in a specialized unit.

License Requirement:
Candidates must possess a valid motor vehicle driver license in the State of New York at the time of appointment, which must be maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Skills:
Experience in specialized investigations related to child abuse, domestic violence, gang activity, missing persons, and juvenile crimes will be highly regarded.
