Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse II is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to assigned patients, minimizing the risk of infection, contamination, harm, or injury. This includes recording patients' medical information and vital signs, monitoring and reporting symptoms and changes in patients' conditions, conducting specified laboratory tests, and maintaining accurate and detailed reports and records.

Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver quality nursing care to assigned patients while minimizing the risk of infection, contamination, harm, or injury.
  2. Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
  3. Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in patients' conditions.
  4. Conduct specified laboratory tests.
  5. Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
  6. Complete documentation to meet regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
  7. Provide patient education directed towards identified knowledge deficits.
  8. Guide, educate, and provide leadership as a preceptor to LVNs and non-licensed clinical staff, as directed.
  9. Participate in performance improvement process initiatives within JPS Health Network and assigned department.
Requirements:
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Vocational Nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice vocational nursing in the State of Texas by the Board of Nurse Examiners and must maintain licensure throughout employment.
  • Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • ACLS within 3 months of hire (required in Emergency Department and Critical Care only).
  • EKG test passed within 90 days of hire date and maintained throughout employment (required in Emergency Department and Critical Care only).
  • Completion of Pediatric Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire and maintains credentialing throughout employment for the Emergency Department.
  • Completion of unit specific competency-based orientation program within 90 days, if applicable.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification must be obtained within 6 weeks of employment (for Inpatient Women's Services only).
  • Approved Education and Training in Non-Violent Crisis De-escalation must be obtained within 90 days of hire date and maintained throughout employment for the Emergency Department.
  • 4875 Licensed Vocational Nurse I: 0 -1.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4876 Licensed Vocational Nurse II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4877 Licensed Vocational Nurse III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
  • 4878 Licensed Vocational Nurse IV: 10+ years of relevant experience.
