Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct nursing care in line with established policies, procedures, and protocols. Implement and oversee patient care plans.
- Monitor, document, and communicate patient conditions as necessary.
- Track and record patient status and the effectiveness of care interventions.
- Assess, update, and modify care plans to achieve desired outcomes.
- Act as the primary coordinator among various disciplines for seamless patient care.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments per approved nursing protocols.
- Execute physician and nursing orders accurately.
- Evaluate and coordinate discharge planning needs with the healthcare team.
- Assess educational needs of patients and their families, considering cultural and special concerns.
- Provide educational resources and materials as needed.
- Confirm and document patient and family comprehension of educational content.
- Pursue ongoing professional growth through formal and informal education and clinical study.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
- Completion of a Critical Care Course for acute care settings.
- Participation in Periop 101 or validated on-the-job training for the Operating Room.
Certification Requirements:
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from AHA must be obtained upon hire or within the first year, depending on department requirements.
- RNs in NICU must achieve Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within one year of hire.
- RNs in Labor and Delivery must maintain ACLS certification within one year of hire.
- ONS Chemo/Bio course completion is required within two years for units administering chemotherapy.
- RNs in Adult/Combined EDs must have ACLS certification upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
- RNs providing pediatric care must obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
- RNs in Dedicated Trauma Centers must complete Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) within hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
- Registered nurses in oncology settings must obtain cancer-specific certification or demonstrate ongoing qualifying education within the facility's accreditation cycle.
Work Complexity:
- Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently.
- Must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and taking appropriate actions.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum one year of current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting is required for acute care roles.
- Minimum one year of current acute care RN experience and/or skilled nursing facility experience is required for SNF roles.
- Minimum one year of current acute care RN experience and/or rehabilitation experience is required for rehab roles.
- Minimum one year of current acute care RN experience and/or Emergency Department experience is required for ED roles.
- Licensed military RN experience will be considered.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full body motion, including patient handling and lifting, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires prolonged standing and walking.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.
- Must be able to work under stress and irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids is expected.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical demands exceed those for Light Work.
