Position Overview

The Cardiovascular Operating Room Technologist plays a crucial role in the surgical team, providing support during open heart surgeries and other cardiovascular procedures.

Certification Requirements
  • Current certifications: BLS, Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NCCT, and ND UAP
Job Details
  • Specialty: CVOR Tech
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks
  • Guaranteed Hours: 32 hours/week, with a scheduled 40 hours/week
  • Shift Length: 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday for open heart cases
  • Call Requirements: Weeknight call 3-4 times per week; weekend call every other to every third weekend
  • Holiday Call: Rotating holidays
  • Management Presence: Charge Nurse available for all shifts from 7 AM to 11 PM, Monday to Friday; weekends from 7 AM to 7 PM, with a manager until 4 PM, Monday to Friday
  • Shift Start Time: 6 AM for Open Heart Case Preparation (notification provided the day before)
Job Requirements
  • MUST BE WILLING to cross-train into general OR if cardiovascular volumes are low
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in CVOR, including open heart surgeries, CABG, and valve procedures
  • MUST be proficient in first scrubbing
  • Call response time must be within 15 minutes
  • 8-hour reprieve shifts following on-call duties
Schedule Information
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday
Unit Specific Information
  • Number of Operating Suites: 2 CVOR suites
  • Average Cases Per Day: 1-3
  • Common Procedures: Open heart surgeries (CABG, valve repairs, aneurysms), thoracotomies, VATS, Convergent procedures, AAA, carotid surgeries, ION robotic cases, ECMO, Impella 5.5, Stryker towers
  • Essential Skills: Willingness to cross-train into general OR if CV volumes are low, 3 years of CVOR experience, proficiency in first scrubbing
  • Orientation: 4-5 days of unit-based orientation; 2 buddy call shifts with flexible orientation based on recent heart experience
  • Dress Code: Scrub color provided
Additional Information
  • Floating Requirements: Must be willing to cross-train to other OR specialties if CV volumes are low
  • Opportunity to pick up extra shifts for 1:1 patient sitting to supplement hours if case volume is low
  • This department fosters a family-like atmosphere
  • Radius Rule: 50 miles
  • Candidates must not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit
  • All requests for time off must be submitted upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract); additional requests will not be approved
