UCLA Extension stands as a premier institution, catering to over 35,000 learners annually with approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs designed to fulfill the professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of a diverse range of nontraditional students, as well as organizations across the Los Angeles region and beyond.
Course / Program OverviewThe Department of Engineering and Technology provides a broad spectrum of certificate programs and courses, including post-baccalaureate credit-bearing (400-level) and continuing education (CEU) credit courses. The disciplines encompass engineering and technical management fields. UCLA Extension courses and certificate programs enable students to learn from highly qualified professionals who possess advanced degrees and a passion for teaching, effectively sharing their expertise.
Job ResponsibilitiesThe role of the Construction Management instructor involves delivering courses through various modalities, including 100% online, live-online (Zoom), or in-person settings.
We seek experienced professionals who can effectively communicate their industry insights and knowledge to students, utilizing real-world examples and practical applications of course topics. Industry experience is essential.
Multiple openings are available within the Construction Management program. Qualified candidates with current knowledge and teaching experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Construction Management Fundamentals
- Construction Materials and Building Systems
- Construction Scheduling with Primavera (Procore experience preferred)
- Construction Cost and Estimating Using RS Means Data
- Reading Blueprint Construction Drawings
- Legal Aspects of Construction Projects & Contracts
- Construction Job Site Management
- Introduction to Civil Engineering
- Introduction to Building Information Modeling (BIM)
- Plumbing Systems Design I or II
- Develop and/or update existing course syllabus in collaboration with the UCLA Extension Program Director using the approved syllabus template.
- Prepare course materials and assessments in the learning management system.
- Clearly communicate course objectives and specific learning outcomes to students.
- For online instruction, hold weekly office hours via Zoom for student engagement and Q&A.
- Engage with students through discussion posts to foster collaboration and enhance the learning experience.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely grading.
- Address student inquiries and learning needs promptly.
- Submit final grades at the end of each quarter.

QualificationsBasic Qualifications
Passion for teaching, subject matter expertise, and commitment to course development and maintenance are essential.
* MS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience, or a BS degree in the same fields with 10 years of experience.
* Up-to-date knowledge of the latest tools, technologies, and innovations in the industry.
* Professionals holding key positions within their industries are preferred.
* Commitment to high academic standards and integrity is required.
* Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas effectively.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
Experience teaching at the college level or higher is preferred.
* Experience in curriculum design using learning management systems and assessing student performance is preferred.
