Job Title: Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance

ColdSnap is a pioneering company that has revolutionized the way ice cream and other frozen confections are produced, transported, purchased, and enjoyed. We are seeking a seasoned professional to join our team as a Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance.

Job Summary:

The Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing our established food safety and quality assurance processes, ensuring compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal food regulations. This key role requires a self-starter with at least 15 years of experience in the field, who can work independently with minimal direction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee processes and records to evaluate food safety and quality assurance protocols, including HACCP system, regulatory audits, quality systems review process, standard operating procedures, and incoming ingredient inspections.
  • Ensure compliance to quality assurance/food safety requirements by achieving and maintaining all certifications at the facility and abiding by applicable local, state, and federal food laws.
  • Oversee plant compliance and interactions with regulatory bodies/process authorities.
  • Develop and manage shelf-life testing systems for the determination and verification of product safety and quality.
  • Evaluate incoming raw materials and identify issues with suppliers.
  • Oversee monitoring, verification, and validation activities to ensure that all products leaving the facility meet food safety and quality standards.
  • Implement food tracing programs within ERP for full tracking of supply chain.
  • Plan and run mock recall trials to prepare effectively for actual recalls.
  • Provide guidance and leadership in situations where deviations have occurred, or a potential risk has been identified related to food safety and/or quality attributes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or other science-related field, Master's Degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive food safety experience, with at least 3 years in a management capacity within a manufacturing environment under HACCP, USDA, and/or FDA.
  • Experience with dairy/low acid beverages preferred.
  • Experience with thermal processing such as retort/aseptic processing preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the areas of food safety, plant regulatory, and quality assurance.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • One or more of the following certifications: HACCP, PCQI, SQF Practitioner.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
