The Detroit office of SmithGroup is in search of a Healthcare Facility Planner to become part of our team. SmithGroup has consistently been recognized as one of Southeast Michigan's Top Workplaces.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the space programming and dental equipment planning initiatives for educational and clinical settings.
- Analyze the requirements of dental education facilities and devise solutions that may involve constructing new buildings or significantly renovating existing ones.
- Engage with clients and facilitate discussions to establish or confirm program requirements for dental education, guiding them through the design journey.
- Collaborate with the design lead to contribute to planning concepts and detail building systems and components, from the initial concept phase through to construction documentation.
- Oversee the documentation of dental systems, including casework and equipment, and the development of operatory spaces, clinics, laboratories, and support areas to create efficient, forward-thinking environments.
- Work in partnership with designers, project architects, specialty consultants, and engineers to produce drawings and specifications.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years of architectural experience in the healthcare or higher education health sciences sectors.
- Experience in healthcare or higher education to develop interdisciplinary academic and clinical learning environments.
- Strong design and planning capabilities with the ability to generate multiple layout options for departmental spaces and clinic support facilities.
- Architectural Registration and LEED AP certification are preferred.
- High proficiency in graphic software, including Revit, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Excel, PowerPoint, and PowerBI.
- The willingness to travel locally, nationally, and internationally up to 30%.
