Salary and BenefitsThis is an exempt position with a competitive salary range estimated at $62,400 - $76,700 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, vacation and sick time, paid holidays, and a retirement plan.
Job DescriptionThe Public Benefits Specialist will provide targeted support for benefits advocacy to individuals currently or at risk of experiencing homelessness. This role involves participating in street outreach activities to build relationships and connect clients with long-term services designed to help them obtain and maintain permanent housing and improve their overall well-being.
- Receive and accept benefits assistance referrals.
- Initiate and track the progress of referrals throughout the provision of services.
- Provide strengths-based service coordination services designed to assist clients with obtaining and maintaining mainstream benefits.
- Perform initial assessments to determine client eligibility for benefits such as SSI, SSDI, GA, CalFresh, and CalWORKS.
The successful candidate will have analytical skills, attention to detail, collaboration and teamwork abilities, effective communication skills, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, along with two years of experience in healthcare, case management, homeless services, or working with vulnerable populations.
RequirementsCandidates must have employment eligibility verification, CPR/First Aid training, and successfully complete a tuberculosis test, background screening, and drug test as a condition of hire. Driving is an essential function of this role, and candidates must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, proof of insurance and vehicle ownership, and be able to qualify for PATH's insurance coverage.
