The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) plays a crucial role in providing immediate medical assistance in both emergency and non-emergency situations. This position requires a calm, efficient, and safe response to various pre-hospital calls.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver basic and advanced life support to patients in accordance with established guidelines, under the supervision of senior medical personnel.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of operational protocols and treatment guidelines.
- Effectively extricate individuals from hazardous situations using appropriate techniques.
- Ensure that ambulances and medical equipment are clean, well-stocked, and operational, reporting any issues promptly.
- Accurately complete patient care reports and related documentation in a timely manner.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Exhibit professionalism and courtesy in all interactions with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate effectively as part of a team to maintain operational readiness and quality standards.
- Adhere to safety practices to prevent injuries and accidents.
- Continuously develop skills to meet certification requirements.
- Ensure all certifications and training are current and compliant.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Provide guidance and training to ensure safe operations and high-quality patient care.
- Act as a positive role model within the team.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and teamwork capabilities.
- Stay informed about departmental protocols and regulations.
- Follow both written and verbal instructions effectively.
- Exhibit strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Current National Registry of EMT Certification.
- Valid South Dakota ALS License for Advanced EMTs.
- Current South Dakota EMT Certification for BLS providers.
- Current AHA BLS CPR Certification.
- Preferred: Current BTLS or PHTLS Certification for advanced providers.
- NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications.
- Entry-level position or experienced providers.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and background check.
- Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Availability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Flexibility to respond to emergencies at any time during assigned shifts.
- Thorough knowledge of local geography and emergency response protocols.
- Awareness of current standards of care and equipment usage.
EMTs may encounter various hazards while responding to emergencies, including environmental dangers and potential physical threats. Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines is essential to ensure personal and patient safety.
Certification
