SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

  • Oversees the daily activities of engineers and technicians
  • Assists in the recruitment and training of new team members
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are constructive and timely
  • Manages employee discipline and terminations in accordance with company policies

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in sheet metal design, preferably in material handling or conveyance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Hands-on problem solver with experience in diverse environments
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing and engineering principles
  • Proficient in CAD, with a preference for SolidWorks experience
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (preferably SyteLine) and PLM or PDM systems
  • Basic knowledge of electrical controls and circuit design
  • Extensive experience in tolerancing, GD&T, and machine design
  • Understanding of power transmission systems, including drives and gearboxes
  • Experience with conveyors and material handling systems is advantageous
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships at all organizational levels

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline, ideally mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing
  • 10+ years of experience in a related engineering field, with 5-10 years in a leadership capacity
  • Expertise in modern manufacturing techniques and processes
  • Proficient in Lean problem-solving methodologies

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and customer specifications. Capable of writing routine reports and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Strong mathematical skills are essential, with the ability to perform engineering calculations using algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient in 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks or 3D Inventor
  • Experienced with 2D AutoCAD
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting. The employee will spend significant time on the shop floor and may need to lift up to 50 lbs. Additionally, the position involves working at a computer for extended periods.

TRAVEL:

Travel requirements are typically minimal, around 15% or less.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will work in both office and shop floor settings, with daily activities divided between the two environments based on workload. Occasional travel may be necessary to customer or supplier locations, where exposure to mechanical parts and various environmental factors may occur. Noise levels in the work environment vary but generally do not require hearing protection.
