Reports To: Principal

Summary: This role is essential in maintaining a clean and organized environment, contributing to the overall mission of the educational institution. The custodian plays a vital part in ensuring that the facilities are kept in excellent condition.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming various areas including hallways, staircases, and office spaces.
  2. Maintain cleanliness of carpets, restrooms, outdoor grounds, parking areas, windows, and HVAC vents.
  3. Manage waste disposal by emptying trash and recycling containers.
  4. Oversee the upkeep of the building and its surroundings.
  5. Assist in setting up and dismantling for school events and activities.
  6. Ensure restrooms are stocked with necessary supplies.
  7. Replace light bulbs as needed.
  8. Inform the principal of any major repair needs regarding lighting, heating, and ventilation systems.
  9. Clear debris and sand from walkways.
  10. Monitor supply usage and reorder as necessary to maintain adequate stock.
  11. Adhere to budget constraints related to custodial supplies.
  12. Perform additional tasks as assigned by the principal.

Qualifications: To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Previous experience or training in a related field is advantageous.

Language Skills: Proficiency in reading and understanding simple instructions, correspondence, and memos; ability to write basic correspondence; and capability to present information effectively in small group settings.

Mathematical Skills: Competence in basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to follow detailed instructions, whether written or oral.

Physical Demands: The role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, and the use of hands for handling objects. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crawling may be necessary. The position involves lifting and/or moving up to 75 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment: The work environment may include exposure to various weather conditions. The noise level is typically moderate.

Additional Requirements: Punctuality and adherence to attendance standards are essential. Safety in all activities is a must, along with a willingness to work flexible shifts.
