Service Manager Role Overview

The Service Manager is a key position at Valley Plains Equipment, responsible for leading a team of skilled Service Technicians in delivering exceptional service experiences to our customers. This role requires a strong leader who can optimize service operations, ensure customer satisfaction, and drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and allocate work orders across the service team, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Take ownership of the department's financial performance, including sales growth, expense control, and net return on sales.
  • Collaborate with technicians to diagnose machine problems, provide guidance, and ensure accurate repair orders.
  • Manage special tools, recommend new tooling as needed, and maintain a high level of technical expertise.
  • Communicate effectively with the team, customers, and management to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Approve the release of customer equipment, ensuring timely and efficient service.
  • Develop and implement training programs for service department employees, promoting continuous improvement and skill development.
  • Lead performance reviews, providing constructive feedback and coaching to drive employee growth and success.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, product improvements, and John Deere University education to maintain a competitive edge.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience in diesel or agricultural equipment service repairs.
  • Proven leadership and collaboration skills, with a track record of driving business growth and improving customer satisfaction.
  • Strong technical expertise, with proficiency in using special tools and following Technical Manual procedures.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, as well as experience operating vehicles, tools, and equipment for diagnostic purposes.
  • Basic computer proficiency and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in John Deere agricultural equipment service repairs.
  • Demonstrated track record of consistently meeting performance metrics and driving business growth.
  • Experience using Service Advisor or diagnostic tools, with a strong understanding of industry developments and product improvements.
