Service Manager Job Description

At Upland Talent, we're seeking a skilled Service Manager to lead our team of Service Technicians in delivering exceptional service experiences for our customers. As a key member of our dealership group, you'll oversee service operations, optimize processes, and drive customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Schedule and Assign Work: Coordinate shop orders and assignments across the service technician team, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Financial Performance: Take ownership of departmental financial performance, including profitable sales growth, expense control, and targeted net return on sales.
  • Repair Order Management: Review and approve repair orders for accuracy and completeness, providing guidance to technicians as needed.
  • Equipment Diagnostics: Aid in diagnosing machine problems, directing technicians to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Tool Management: Maintain and manage special tools, recommending new tooling as required to support service operations.
  • Department Processes: Effectively communicate, manage, and monitor department processes to ensure an efficient team and excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Customer Equipment Release: Approve the release of customer equipment, ensuring timely and accurate completion of service work.
  • Training and Development: Dedicate time to assist service department personnel with training and development opportunities, promoting ongoing improvement.
  • Performance Reviews: Lead and complete performance reviews for service department employees, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Product Improvement Programs: Assist in tracking and scheduling Product Improvement Programs, ensuring timely implementation and effective results.
  • Continuous Learning: Engage in ongoing education and training, staying informed about competitive equipment and services to drive service excellence.
Qualifications:
  • Service Experience: 7+ years of experience performing service repairs on diesel or agricultural equipment.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience in team leadership and collaboration, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using special tools and following Technical Manual procedures, with a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, technicians, and other stakeholders.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required, with an Associate's degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • John Deere Experience: Previous experience in John Deere agricultural equipment service repairs, with a demonstrated track record of consistently meeting performance metrics.
  • Diagnostic Tools: Experience using Service Advisor or diagnostic tools, with a strong understanding of equipment systems and repair procedures.
