Job Title: Machinist

We are seeking a skilled Machinist to join our team at Alstom's Baltimore, Maryland facility. As a Machinist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our passenger coaches and locomotives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect and maintain passenger coaches and locomotives to ensure compliance with OEM, FRA, and DOT standards.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on engines, air brake equipment, running gear, and locomotive components.
  • Operate locomotives, passenger coaches, and prime movers as part of a team to move rail equipment.
  • Manage equipment work orders using our asset management database.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • 4 years of heavy mechanical repair experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 years of automotive or diesel mechanic experience.
Basic Competencies:
  • Verbal comprehension and communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Must obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation and qualification.
  • Meet regulatory medical qualifications for Maintenance Facility Engineer and Maintenance Facility Conductor.
  • Driving record must be free of moving convictions for alcohol or substance abuse within the previous 36 months.
  • Basic proficiency with Windows software and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Physical Requirements:
  • Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis.
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, balance, and climb on a regular basis.
  • Push, pull, grip, and carry on a regular basis.
  • Walk long distances over uneven terrain.
  • Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity.
  • Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis.
Employment Conditions:
  • Work safely to prevent on-the-job accidents and injuries.
  • Wear protective equipment such as hard hats, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, and safety glasses.
  • Work hours may include a non-standard workweek, overtime, and various shift work.
  • Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination.
  • Subject to random testing for drugs and/or alcohol per certifications.
  • Must pass all required assessments.
  • Required to pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • This position will be governed by a collective bargaining agreement, membership is required.
  • Active employees must complete one year in the current position or craft before applying for positions.
Environmental Conditions:

Work outside in all weather conditions in confined spaces and on occasion at elevated heights.
