Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Neonatal Respiratory Therapist to join our team at the University of California. As a key member of our NICU team, you will provide high-quality respiratory care to critically ill newborns, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Attend high-risk deliveries and neonatal transports, providing respiratory care to critically ill newborns
  • Conduct procedures such as humidity and aerosol therapy, lung inflation maneuvers, and pulmonary secretion clearance methods
  • Monitor patients on continuous ventilator support and perform CPR in the NICU
  • Provide oxygen therapy, selecting appropriate devices and adjusting treatments based on respiratory care protocols and lab results
  • Perform bronchodilator therapy and secretion clearance, assembling, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment
  • Determine the appropriateness of respiratory care therapy modalities, including indication/contraindications and hazards of therapy
  • Initiate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain patients on continuous mechanical support, recommending changes based on patient clinical status
  • Perform invasive and noninvasive monitoring and diagnostic techniques on NICU patients
Requirements
  • Graduate of a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy program
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) certification
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification (NRP)
  • BLS/CPR or BART certification at time of hire, with commitment to get BART within six months of hire date
  • Previous directly related experience in a large, complex healthcare setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Neonatal Pediatric Specialty (NPS) certification
  • Previous experience working as a Respiratory Therapist in the NICU
  • Experience performing invasive and noninvasive monitoring and diagnostic techniques on NICU patients
  • Experience working in the Delivery Room
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work various hours and locations based on business needs, including at least one shift per week and select holidays. Must be able to attend transports of infants via ambulance, fixed wing aircraft, and helicopters. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

This is a per diem position, with a competitive hourly rate of $55.41. The University of California is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from diverse candidates.
