Job Summary

The Electrical Mechanic performs a variety of installation, maintenance, and repair work using a broad assortment of electrical/mechanical equipment. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, test, and repair electric motors and other electrical and mechanical devices
  • Install motor controls, pump motors, street lights, heaters, exhaust fans, main feeders, conduits, breakers, switchgear
  • Maintain high and low pressure steam boilers
  • Maintain and repair drive units, fuel pumps, air compressors, lump breakers, grinders, scum pumps, off-gas systems, fuel oil tanks, multi-hearth incinerators and pumps
  • Replace chains, bearings, sprockets, augers, shafts, grease lines and flights
  • Lubricate and paint plant equipment; perform general plumbing and replace malfunctioning pumps
  • Repair and maintain water softener systems, cranes, boiler feed pumps, centrifuges, air dryers, re-aeration tanks and pneumatic controls
  • Repair bar screens and conveyors and replace couplings
  • Assist Electrical/Mechanical Technician in the repair of transformers, high voltage power supplies, and other equipment
  • Drive a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in electrical or mechanical maintenance work at the level of an electrical or mechanic helper
  • Completion of technical courses in basic electricity, blueprints and schematics
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with no more than 4 points and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver's permit within 90 days of hire or transfer
  • Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work
Work Environment

The Electrical Mechanic will work in an industrial wastewater plant environment, which requires the ability to work in inclement weather and fluctuating temperatures, climbing ladders, scaffolding, and descending underground, as well as exposure to the hazards of working in confined spaces with high voltage electricity.

Salary

$39.44 per hour
