Policy Communications Specialist

Kountoupes Denham Carr & Reid (KDCR Partners) is a leading bipartisan lobbying firm in Washington, D.C., representing public and private companies, trade associations, and non-profit organizations before Congress and the federal government.

We are seeking a highly skilled Policy Communications Specialist to manage and support our team's internal and external communications and ongoing efforts to promote the firm through public relations and public affairs tactics.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with Capitol Hill with specific expertise and/or interest in writing, content development, and communications. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing internal communications, such as reports, newsletters, memos, and decks;
  • Developing external communications for clients, including newsletters, talking points, remarks, one-pagers, and blog posts;
  • Collaborating with team members to develop presentations for clients;
  • Identifying opportunities to promote the firm and its clients through creative tactics, including traditional media channels and social media;
  • Leading digital efforts in internal communications and social media using graphic design programs like Canva;
  • Curating daily press clips to monitor coverage of clients and the firm;
  • Proofreading and editing weekly reports;
  • Developing and maintaining media relations strategies for the firm, including pitching stories to reporters;
  • Supporting website maintenance;
  • Developing, maintaining, and leading election-tracking documents, including master pre-election and post-election decks;
  • Coordinating the firm's guest speaker series and working with the Office Administrator to plan logistics;
  • Tracking and maintaining a database of events contacts.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of experience, with a background in policy communications or a related field;
  • Exceptional writing skills, particularly in policy communications;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of audiences;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team;
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office products and graphic design programs like Canva;
  • Familiarity with social media platforms like Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Instagram;
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and resourceful problem solver.
