IAT Surety is seeking a dedicated Contract Surety Underwriter to join our underwriting team. This position is essential in managing routine underwriting tasks in alignment with company policies and procedures. The role involves collaboration with regional office underwriters, home office staff, agents, and clients, fostering effective communication and teamwork. This position supports a hybrid work model, requiring in-office presence from Monday to Wednesday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Thursdays and Fridays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct financial and account assessments of relevant financial data, ensuring compliance with authority and referral requirements for new, existing, and renewal business.
  • Request and compile financial information for assigned accounts.
  • Prepare bond renewals and assess the necessity for bond cancellations.
  • Maintain strong agency relationships while delivering exceptional service and support, with the potential to underwrite low-value bonds and renewals.
  • Guide Bond Underwriting Assistants in bond processing tasks.
  • Provide insightful recommendations to Branch and Home Office reports regarding assigned accounts and agents.
  • Evaluate and review bonds for accuracy in premium and classification.
  • Ensure thoroughness and accuracy of files, confirming all required documentation is present.
  • Act as the primary service contact, visiting agents as assigned to nurture ongoing relationships.
  • Effectively communicate knowledge of assigned accounts to Branch and Home Office personnel through both written and verbal means.
  • Prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion and adherence to deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:

Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Mathematics, Business, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Contract Surety or equivalent.
  • Equivalent experience defined as 6 years of relevant Contract Surety underwriting experience.
  • Credit and financial analysis experience may substitute for surety experience.
  • Proven marketing skills with the ability to attract new business and engage with contractor clients.
  • Strong capabilities in quantitative and financial analysis.
  • Excellent mathematical aptitude, along with strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Customer service orientation and high integrity are essential.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring VISA sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • AFSB industry designation.
